Hope the kitchen treated you well Sarah... also nice to see your new message footer!!

The Izakk Walton gets my vote. Will be just the one of me, posisbly arriving my helicopter (tbc), and any weekend after mid Nov is good for me.

Anyway, all this talk of hotels is making me sleepy.... off to bed Laughing

The Isaac Walton looks good to me too.

Not able to do much in the way of research until Thursday evening or Friday at the earliest.

We are looking after our little granddaughter (not quite 2 years old) so time on the computer very limited.

A very tired CW

Shall we go for the Isaac Walton Hotel then? Looks good. And the prices are affordable as well.

What about the 15 December? Me and blme will just go with the flow, but need to know by mid-November so that I can keep our work diary free for this, or any other, date.

It would be great to see as many HeliTorquers as poss ....... if in the next couple of days anyone comes up with a better idea then please post. All ideas gratefully received.......

Time is whizzing by far too quickly Rolling Eyes

We need to know soon so that we can let the hotel know that there will be a party going on. Some of the hotels WGirl has approached are already booked up.

Cheers

As far as I know this is the list of people who want to come along to the Christmas Bash:-

Me
blme
WhirlyGirl
WhirlyGuy
WhirlyGirl's parents
WhirlyGuy's parents
one mag and his entourage - 5 altogether

Who else is coming along?

James T Lowe and MrsJTL2B ?
oi-martin ?
HeliCraig ?
Rotocraig and Helen ?
Pilot Wolf and Mrs PW2B ?

The more the merrier Smile

If we can get a fair idea of the numbers then we can get in touch with the Isaac Walton Hotel and let them know that there is a possibility of a load of heli types descending on them on 15 December.

I can't believe that it is only about 10 or 11 weeks until that date Shocked

WhirlyGirl has just been onto Google Earth and tapped in the Isaak Walton Hotel postcode - good landing site, not too much in the way of high ground within the vicinity of the hotel.

Hopefully I will be there. Count me in for the moment.

At least there may be someone to wave at you when you arrive. Looks like a nice steady drive up there.

...except for the peak district! Wink

But the approaches in look clear, it's some distance from any built-ups. Should be good provided it doesn't get fogged in! Laughing

If we can arrange an aircraft we'll fly, otherwise we'll be coming by road.

Waiting for hotel to call me back re. bookings, but once I get this confirmed I will post the phone number and you can all call up individually to book your rooms. At the moment they have 29 places available for dinner, but I wouldn't want to leave it too long as Crimbo's getting closer and people want to party....

Best wishes,

Sarah

I would like to come along as Ashbourne is not too far (if I am looking at the correct hotel), but I will need to check with Mrs FanPilot as well.

Have you looked on this page?
http://www.izaakwaltonhotel.com/history.html

Note the date in the darker green section in the middle.

Also, I will be turning another decade on that date, as it is my birthday. This might mean that I can't make it.

Spooky! The party's on the day he died!!!!

Fanpilot, you'd be more than welcome to come along. Always nice to meet another new member of the forum. Why don't you make it a Christmas / Birthday party then?

Sarah

BOOKING INSTRUCTIONS

I've had the hotel put aside 25 dinner places and 15 rooms for a couple of days only. Basically they need a 10 per meal deposit if you want to reserve a place, which will be deducted off the final bill. The overall costs are as follows:

Standard Rooms - 90
Deluxe Rooms - 110
Executive Rooms - 130

Rates are per room, single or double occupancy and include breakfast.

Christmas dinner is priced at 35 per person and the disco / entertainment is provided at no extra cost.

Booking procedure:

1. Contact the hotel on 01335 350 555 ( http://www.izaakwaltonhotel.com/ )
2. Tell them you want to book dinner / accommodation for the 15th Dec and will be joining the HeliTorque party
3. Pay your 10 per person meal deposit and confirm accommodation with credit card to secure your room
4. Send me a pm confirming you have done this so I can liaise with the hotel about final numbers in the next couple of weeks
5. If planning to fly in, please arrange your own PPR

I have not had a chance to visit the hotel but I have looked on various aerial resources and I personally would be happy to fly in. Please make your own decision about this. If I can get along to take pictures in the meantime I will, alternatively if anyone is passing and wants to have a look at the landing site, please feel free to share your findings. Apparently they will be removing the sheep!

Thanks and hope to see you all there!

Best wishes,

Sarah

I have never visited the hotel or flown in the area, but I've visited Dovedale to walk along the river with the kids many times - the visitors car park can be seen on Google Earth etc. just to the NE of the hotel.

There is a lot of high ground in the vicinity (certainly to the North as you walk up the Dove river).

Microsoft Live Maps shows relief quite well
