Hi,
In january I'm going to start the training for my PPL. But that's something that stop me.
I spent some time reading on the internet, and it look like that PPL and SFH is the worst thing existing on the planet.
I'm not looking for a pilot career but that doesn't mean that I don't want to fly safely.
So what do you think? Are PPL the helicopter enemy number 1?

Not at all, attitude towards what you do, a desire to do it well and a healthy respect for what you are doing will do you a great deal of good.

Do not scrimp on training, be prepared to pay for ground school as well as flight training, learn with someone with a good reputation or at least make sure they are supervising any juniour instructors they have.

People who treat helicopters like cars end up in boxes.

Its not for everyone and some people think they can buy licences, you can pay for training what you get out of it is partly up to you and partly dependant on how knowledgable your instructor is.

You are on the right path by wanting to fly safely.

In my short experience (8.5 hours ish).... don't be scared of the safety aspects as this will hinder your ability to fly safely. There is no doubt that you will be full of apprehension during the early stages and you will soon know whether or not this really is something you want to do. Stick with it for a while even if you have doubts initially, and you will quickly overcome the apprehension and have great fun. Once you relax you will learn more quickly and the safety aspects will be uppermost in your mind (your FI will see to that).

As suggested above though, it's not like a 'flying car' and you will realise that very quickly. It's likely to be unlike anything you've ever done before, but when it starts to come together it is extremely rewarding (and that is a gross understatement!).
