Thought it might be interesting to get a thread going about shooting helicopters. Below is a list of equipment that I take with me on every shoot.
Canon EOS 1DS MK II
16 - 35 Canon Lens
28 - 70 2.8L Series Canon Lens
70 - 200 2.8L Series Canon Lens
Canon 580 Flash
Three 4GB Lexar Pro Compact Flash Cards
80Gb Fire Lite External Hard Drive
Apple G4 Powerbook Laptop
Kenlab KS-6 Gyro Stabiliser.
Have been doing this helo photography stuff for a while now and have a great time. Get to travel to some neat places and shoot some cool helos. Just my two cents worth.
If anyone has any questions post them here and will see if I can answer them.
Cheers

Canon EOS - is that a digital SLR? Is that the way forward in professional photography these days?
Just bought a new Fuji Finepix S5500 with a 10 x digital zoom, but fancy a digital SLR next.

We have very similar gear but you have better subjects
For our upgrade of camera what would you suggest?

DB - Yes the 1DS MK II is the latest toy from Canon and is a 17 Megapixel camera. I jumped straight in at the deep end and got the best money could buy and it shows on the quality of the images I have got from photo shoots. However its not cheap - $8500 USD for the body without any lenses.
BLME - What camera do you currently have and what do you want to shoot with it. I use the L series lens because in air to air I want the sharpest image possible and a barrell zoom like the 35-350 means much more glass for the image to go through. Thats why I stick to the 70-200 2.8L as my primary lens for the air to air stuff.

F3 - Just some words of experience, try not to ever get a lens that has a telescoping barrell. The 70-200 2.8L lens is the perfect lens to use in my opinion. Its great and I use it as my primary one for air to air photography.
Cheers

Anybody had any experience with the Nikon AF-S f2.8 70-200mm VR G IF-ED Lens?
If you have used both, is it similar to the Cannon you mentioned?

I use the Nikon AF 28-200 f3.5 / 5.6 IF Lens on a Nikon D70 body. The lens has worked OK for me.
Sorry, no experience with any Canon products.
