Portuguese parapublic helicopter operator, Empresa de Meios Aereos, has marked its 5,000 hour of operations with the Kamov Ka-32.
The state-owned company operates six of the Russian-built helicopters from bases across Portugal on public service missions including fire-fighting, SAR and medical evacuation.
The 5,000th hour was flown on 16 January by commander José Mendes, co-pilot Joana Santos and winch operator Bruno Martins flying aircraft CS-HMM.
The 5,000 hours include: 1,517 missions fighting forest fires accounting for 18,397 water drops; 105 SAR missions, rescuing 102 people; 42 medical evacuation missions; and 18 organ transplant flights. The Kamovs have also been used on Frontex EU patrol flights as well as on law enforcement missions.
EMA and other Iberian Kamovs will feature in an upcoming edition of Rotorhub magazine.
