Very sad news
Some very dear friends of ours sadly are no longer with us. They died in a fixed wing crash today in Oxfordshire. They are both very experienced fixed wing pilots but both have PPL(H) as well One of them is a 737 training captain and an helicopter instructor as well. Their machine must have had a huge major fault because Tony would have been able to control almost any problem.
I can't believe that these two most wonderful, amazing, loveable, likeable guys have gone from us.
Unfortunately, I had the sad demise of the first phone call and following it through to the final confirmation. I feel slightly numb and confused!! And I feel so sad, so very very sad. It is just not right. I can't find the right words at the moment.
The widows of the pilots have been on the phone to me today. They are amazingly strong, and such wonderful ladies.
My lovely, gorgeous, happy, witty, colourful, outgoing, charismatic, mad, caring friend Capt. Corr was a brilliant, fantastic, experienced heli/fixed-wing pilot. I would put my hand on my heart and swear that it absolutely WAS NOT pilot error. The machine was IMC and airways rated. Some serious catastrophic failure must have occurred! But, we will have to wait for the report. The weather for this machine was not a factor because another aircraft took off straightaway after this one to go to Switzerland, and that departed and completed it's sortee with no problems.
I never ever want to "have that knock on the door" from the authorities, or have to deal with AAIB!
blme on pipeline in Scotland and South England quite a bit - but, he will never push the envelope because it doesn't make you a bloody hero!!!!
Thanks again for all your kind messages. I will pass these on to the families.
