It has been suggested that we go for a Karting day in the new year. Here are some Karting web links. Might be good to go to Thruxton and meet up with some members from down there, but Bruntingthorpe has also been suggested as another venue.

Thruxton Karting

Bruntingthorpe Airfield

Throw some dates at me and we'll start looking to pencil something in the diary. I don't know how this works, whether you need a minimum number of people or whether you share the track with others, but we can look into that. Perhaps the experienced karters amongst us can shed some light on the subject!

Are we looking at early on in the year or would you prefer to wait until it get a bit warmer?

Just came across this article on the above karting site:

Just found another site that does Karting - http://www.one4allgroup.com/ which doesn't look like it's too far away from Nottingham, Tollerton. Looks like there's an indoor track there, BUT they also seem to operate Paintballing Activities which could be good fun and an idea for another trip!

There is both Karting and Paintballing at Leicester Airport

Went Karting there a couple of years ago, it was very good!!!

This photo shows the layout and proximity to the airport ... helis are usually parked on the grass square by the windsock to the right of the tower.

Hi RC,

Thanks for posting that. It looks really good. I like the fact that it's on the airfield and wouldn't need to travel too far to get to the track!

I think we could actually split this into two fly-ins. One time we could go karting and then another time a paintball fly-in. If we hold each one at a different part of the country it will make it more interesting and will give people a chance to attend if one of the venues is more local to them. What do you think?

So for example we could do Karting at Thruxton and then on another day Paintballing at Leicester, or something like that! Let me know your thoughts!

Yep agree there's 2 fly-in's to be had there!

I'm actually crap at both Karting and Paintballing ... they both hurt when you're useless!!!

BTW interesting how Leicester are "the uk's premier karting circuit" and Thruxton are "The UK's premier kart racing circuit in the UK" Very Happy

Well I've never done either but it should be a laugh! Which days of the week would suit you rc? And which month? Should we wait until we can take advantage of slightly longer days?

Weekends are probably better for me, need to save my hols for the building of our extension.

Both karting and paintball are good fun, done both several times before. Need any info let me know.

Both indoor and outdoor karting has its advantages and disadvantages. Indoors suits the lighter drivers more, they tend to be quicker, for us lardies it tends to be a Sunday afternoon drive. If its wet outside lardies have the advantage as they stick to the track better. I'll look into Karting at Thruxton and let you know, they usually have grand prix format events. Say five heats then a semi and a final.

As with paintball its suits all ages and sizes. Before any suggests it, I'm not wearing my yellow coat for paintball, be like wearing a sign saying " I'm over here shoot me".
Paintball days usually consist of maybe six or seven games during the day, its usually two teams and the aim is to capture the other teams flag. Usually played in a mixture of woodland and buidlings.

Will report back in due course.

Martin

Only been to Thruxton to have a look but looks a good track.

Not too far from Didcot either by road.

I can safely say that the Thruxton track is really very good. Fast karts and a fast track...

We'd be well up for that! Wink

So now the clocks have changed and we've got some slightly longer days and (hopefully) warmer weather, how about we try to pencil in a date for this karting trip?

Who's up for it and which day of the week would suit everybody best? For us the most preferable days would be a Sunday or a Monday, as those are our days off, but if push came to shove I could take a day off work on a Saturday.

What do you think?

Was going to pop in to Thruxton on the way past on Friday but the Superbikes were there all weekend so guess it may have been busy.

Put me down for it. I've got several friends who would be interested if you wanted to make the numbers up.

Did I read somewhere they allow helicopters to land next to the karting circuit. Probably making that up as I go along.
